The open-world environment is based on the states of California and Nevada in the United States. The state of San Andreas includes natural areas like deserts and forests. The non-city environment represents areas in Arizona. Six main territories are available to explore in three cities and three counties. Each of the cities includes landmarks that mirror the real structures. Los Santos is a virtual city based on Los Angeles.
